The agreement between you and Maza Academics, and how sessions, packages, payments, and cancellations work

These terms and policies govern your use of mazaacademics.com and the services provided by Maza Academics. By using this site or engaging our services, you agree to them. If a parent or guardian is arranging services for a student under 18, the parent or guardian agrees to these terms on the student's behalf. The package descriptions on our pricing page form part of these terms.
Maza Academics provides one-on-one tutoring and coaching in four areas: SAT Reading and Writing preparation, Writing and English Language Arts tutoring, college application essay coaching, and graduate school application essay coaching for Humanities PhD and Master's programs. Services are delivered by Edward Maza.
Math is not part of our programs. We can refer you to other tutors for Math. A tutor we refer is independent, and you agree on terms and fees with that tutor directly.
We are not a college counseling or admissions consulting service. We support the writing and revision of essays. We do not advise on which schools to apply to, and we do not submit applications on your behalf.
A free 15-minute intro call is available before you buy. It is a conversation about your goals, not a lesson. A trial session is a shorter version of a real session and is paid.
The SAT Starter, Standard, and Premium packages include 10, 20, and 30 one-hour sessions. The Writing and ELA 4-Session Package includes 4 one-hour sessions, and the Semester Package includes 20 one-hour sessions. The package description on the pricing page at the time you buy governs what you receive.
Unused sessions expire 12 months after the purchase date and cannot be used after that date.
Essay packages cover a defined body of work: the essays, live session hours, and rounds of written feedback listed for the package you bought. Essay packages are valid for 12 months from the purchase date. Where a package includes revision rounds, they run until you submit the essay, up to 12 months from purchase.
Work beyond what your package lists, such as an additional essay, is available as an add-on at the prices shown on the pricing page.
We require 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule a session.
For trial sessions, single sessions, and ongoing sessions with no set number purchased, a missed session or a cancellation with less than 24 hours' notice is billed at the full session rate.
In a package with a set number of sessions, a missed session or a cancellation with less than 24 hours' notice forfeits that session. The session is deducted from your package and cannot be made up.
A session booked less than 24 hours in advance cannot be canceled without being billed at the full rate or, in a package, without forfeiting the session.
Package fees are for a defined body of work. If you end a package early at your request, any refund is at our discretion and will reflect work already completed. Sessions already held, and sessions that have expired or been forfeited, are not refundable. A trial or single session is not refundable once it has been held. If we end an engagement under the academic integrity section below, completed sessions are not refunded.
We do not guarantee any particular test score, grade, or admissions outcome. Nobody credibly can. Admissions decisions rest with the institutions, and test performance depends on factors outside our control, the student's own preparation among them. What we commit to is skilled, individually tailored instruction and honest feedback.
Any scores, results, or testimonials shown on this site describe what particular students achieved. They are not a prediction of what you will achieve.
This matters more than anything else on this page. We coach writers. We do not write for them.
In essay work, we help students find their subject, structure their thinking, and revise their own prose. The words that go into an application must be the student's own. We will not ghostwrite a personal statement, supplemental essay, statement of purpose, or any coursework, and we will not knowingly help anyone misrepresent authorship to an institution. We reserve the right to end an engagement, without refund of completed sessions, if we are asked to.
Students remain responsible for complying with the academic integrity policies of their schools and the institutions they apply to.
Worksheets, practice materials, curricula, written feedback, and other instructional content we provide remain our intellectual property. You may use them for the student's own learning. You may not copy, distribute, resell, or publish them, or use them to deliver instruction to others.
The content of this website, including text, design, and the Maza Academics name and logo, belongs to us. Beyond the Prompt is a copyrighted work and is subject to its own terms of sale.
Work the student creates, such as their essays and their drafts, belongs to the student.
We correspond by email, by phone, and through scheduled sessions. Where the student is a minor, we keep a parent or guardian informed about scheduling, billing, and progress. We will tell you if we have a concern about a student's wellbeing.
Maza Academics participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. Links to books on Amazon may be affiliate links, and we may earn a commission from qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Maza Academics is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of this site or our services, including admissions outcomes, test results, or academic decisions. Our total liability for any claim relating to our services will not exceed the amount you paid us for the services giving rise to the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
This site is provided as is. We aim to keep the information on it accurate and current, but we do not warrant that it is free of errors or that the site will be uninterrupted. Links to third-party sites are provided for convenience; we are not responsible for their content or practices.
Our handling of personal information is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
We may revise these terms. The date at the top reflects the current version. Continuing to use the site or our services after a revision means you accept the revised terms. Material changes affecting an active engagement will be communicated directly.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York.
